Abstract
MATERNAL-FETAL ATTACHMENT - UPDATE ON THE ROLE OF THREE DIMENSIONAL, FOUR-DIMENSIONAL AND HD LIVE ULTRASOUND (Abstract): The continuous improvement in obstetrics imagery during the last few decades has contributed in the refining of the prenatal diagnosis but also to enhance the maternal fetal bonding. Two-dimensional (2D) ultrasound images have a positive influence on the attitude of expectant parents toward the pregnancy by enhancing the parental-fetal bond and reducing anxiety in parents. The introduction of three-dimensional (3D) ultrasonography (US) created the opportunity of having a non-invasive technique with easily understood images of the fetus. HD Live technology is a novel US technique that improves the quality of the 3D/4D images. HD Live uses an adjustable light source and software that calculates the propagation of light through surface structures in relation to the direction of light. The HD Live photos are more impressive than the classic 3D pictures, and parents usually request photos. Three-dimensional HD Live enables detailed observation of the fetal external anatomy beginning with the first trimester and doesn’t increase significantly the examination time. HD Live may play a role in strengthening this relationship between parents and their future child.
