INTRAPANCREATIC ACCESSORY SPLEEN: DIAGNOSTIC CHALLENGE AND REVIEW OF DATA FROM THE SPECIALTY LITERATURE (Abstract): Intrapancreatic accessory spleen is a diagnostic challenge requiring a differential diagnosis with retroperitoneal tumor, neuroendocrine pancreatic tumor, pancreas adenocarcinoma. We present a rare case of intrapancreatic accessory spleen, which was radiologically diagnosed as a pancreatic tumor. This is a 37-year-old female patient who showed fluctuating values of CA19-9 tumor marker. Initially, the endoscopic examination of the digestive tract (upper digestive endoscopy, colonoscopy) was performed, excluding the presence of a proliferative process at this level. In order to investigate the small intestine and other abdominal-pelvic organs we performed the abdomen-pelvic CT examination and the MRI examination. Hepatosplenic scintigram was performed to complete the investigations. The intrapancreatic accessory spleen should be considered as a differential diagnosis for pancreatic tumors. Complex paraclinical investigations (EDS, Colonoscopy, CT, MRI, Scintigraphy) can help diagnose and prevent surgical procedures that are not absolutely necessary.
