Abstract

Polymeric Nanomaterials in Nanotherapeutics describes how polymeric nanomaterials are used in the obtainment of nanosensors and nanorobotics as biomedical instrumentation, surgery, diagnosis and controlled and targeted drug delivery for cancer, improved pharmacokinetics, monitoring of diabetes and other healthcare problems. Polymeric nanomaterials (synthetic and/or natural) used for these purposes described in this book are: polymers as drugs, polymer drug conjugates, polymeric nanoparticles, micelles, nanogels, nano emulsions, viruses, dendrimers, polyplexes, multi-functional nanoparticles, polymersomes, viral nanoparticles, stimuli-responsive nanomaterials, etc. Various ways of drug administration and to create drug formulations for controlled and targeted delivery and release of active agents (drug molecules) to non-healthy tissues and cells as new nanotherapeutics are described. As methods of administration described are included oral, dental, topical and transdermal, pulmonary and nasal, ocular, vaginal, and brain drug delivery. In different chapters it is demonstrated how these nanotherapies are applied to dental work, wound healing, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, neurodegenerative disorders, infectious diseases, chronic inflammatory diseases, metabolic diseases, and more.
