Abstract

Krukenberg disease is part of metastatic malignancies with the primary tumor usually located in the stomach, but any part of the gastrointestinal tract may be involved, including the small or large intestine. Materials and methods: We used statistical analysis to evaluate the link between risk factors and prognosis in 36 patients, over an 8-year period, i.e. between 2016 and 2024. Results: We examined the cases with ovarian metastasis due to gastrointestinal tumor over a ten-year period and found that this tumor made up 1% of the total ovarian cancers that required surgery in our department, these statistical findings being in line with literature data. Discussion: Managing this disease can be very difficult because of its poor prognosis. The patients have obviously a hard time understanding the pathway and the need for further investigations that include endoscopy, PET-MRI and second surgery programming, in order to improve their survival rate. Conclusions: An aggressive treatment is considered the key to prolong the patient’s life, and the best management of this disease is to make as many studies as possible in this direction, in order to better understand and apply the interdisciplinary means of investigations and treatments.
